Kestrel is a producing underground longwall metallurgical coal mine in Queensland's Bowen Basin. The operation uses retreat longwall mining supported by continuous-miner development and processes coal through a 10.5 Mtpa preparation plant. Yancoal has agreed to acquire the 80% interest held through Kestrel Coal Resources Pty Ltd, while Mitsui Kestrel Coal Investment Pty Ltd retains 20%; completion remains subject to conditions and regulatory approvals.
