PHC acquired the Monarch lease in 2021 subject to a 3% shallow-rights royalty, landowner royalties and retained 50% non-operating deep rights for the vendor. After operating wells in 2022, PHC concluded they were uneconomic without efficient water disposal, shut them in and placed the project permanently on hold.
