Marikana is a large underground PGM mining and processing complex comprising the operating K3, K4, Rowland, Saffy and E3 shafts, underground projects, tailings retreatment facilities, concentrators, a smelter and base- and precious-metal refineries. Conventional breast mining predominates, while the reserve-backed E4 UG2 project is designed as a mechanised bord-and-pillar operation. At 31 December 2025, the 100%-basis estimate comprised 109.4Moz of exclusive 4E Mineral Resources and 23.3Moz of 4E Mineral Reserves. The integrated life-of-mine plan, including E4, extends through 2070; E4 is planned through 2059.
