Driefontein is a mature deep to ultra-deep underground gold operation near Carletonville, approximately 70 km west of Johannesburg. Four operating vertical shaft complexes mine narrow Witwatersrand conglomerate reefs using conventional, labour-intensive tabular stoping, with workings extending to approximately 3,300 m below surface. Ore is treated through the No. 1 CIP plant and doré is refined by Rand Refinery. At 31 December 2025, the operation reported 9.8 Moz of gold Mineral Resources inclusive of Mineral Reserves and 2.4 Moz of Mineral Reserves. The current life-of-mine extends to 2036, supported by continued VCR exploration at No. 1 and No. 5 shafts.
