ExxonMobil's planned Mobil Lithium project targets lithium-bearing Smackover Formation brines about 10,000 feet below southwest Arkansas. The process pumps brine to surface, separates lithium by direct lithium extraction and reinjects the remaining brine; appraisal drilling and seismic are complete and battery-grade lithium carbonate has been produced from Arkansas brine only at a Texas pilot facility.
